Talking with someone who deals with supporting legacy software on modern to the extreme (he gets to figure out the hard way what gets broken and attempts to find work arounds) he said the 16-bit calls in most radio programming software are are related to the access of the serial port.

Oh man, this takes me back...I put a line input jack on my old 1995 Caravan back in the day using the CD changer input on the rear.

Yes, they work fine...I have the same radio out on both a Kenwood DMR repeater and a Motorola TRBO repeater and no issues as long as the CC and slot are set right.

I had sort of a similar issue with a Pioneer deck in one of my rigs once; the problem went away when I switched to a different stereo deck. I never got around to confirm what the exact issue was, but I have a hunch there was something weird like loose frame/board screws inside the deck itself.

I have done a few BC-120 portables; you are using the right software but the issue I found is some programming cables I needed to hold and push in the 3.5 mm jack into the radio while reading/writing to get it to work.

One of my friends I know spoke to them about off-road capabilities; in the process of that they were told the radio box is designed for normal motorcycle radio configurations; so I'm guessing 15W on VHF/UHF and 10W on 700/800.

Also, some of the new power supplies I have seen in newer devices have a range of voltage they work on.
