IFR COM120B Processor Issues

The unit had a bad/failed clock, the PO tried replacing the clock chip and some how managed to corrupt/damage the processor chip which will no longer boot up. I sent it off for repair hoping it was just a bad clock repair but it seems other damage was done, the unit was returned to me with the follo...

Old Carbon Mike #

Looking for a part number for a common old carbon mike that Motorla used. Need one to wire up for an older military set that uses carbon mikes. I understand that these older moto mikes have a better audio quality.

Thanks

Re: Soldering MSF5000 RF Transistor

Thanks again for the reply's. Well it still only puts out half power and according to the DMP it's still in the first PA module where I replaced the transistor. Either I fried it or it wasn't the problem.

Re: Soldering MSF5000 RF Transistor

Thanks for the reply. It was my soldering gun, it was pretty much dead. Got a new one and all is well. Now for the live fire test.

Soldering MSF5000 RF Transistor

I am replacing one of the RF transistors in a 125w MSF5000 PA and would like some advice. It seems because of the heat sinking it is taking a fair amount of heat to solder, not having much luck with my weller 100/140w gun. I am worried about damaging the transistor, advice appreciated.

Re: MSF5000 Forward Power Alarm

Station is not connected yet using a dummy load to test. Did some more reading and found that it is a low forward power alarm. I am getting about 60 watts out. I placed a watt meter on the input side and get about 9 watts going into the amp. I also tried feeding the amp with an external rf source ab...

MSF5000 Forward Power Alarm

I am getting a 7 beep audible alarm on the local speaker which is suppose to be a forward power alarm. I looked through my MSF manual and all it lised for alarm codes was 1-4 beeps. I had to look here to find alarms 5-7. The manual states that 7 beeps is a reverse wildcard active in the muxbus. I ca...

Re: 220 MHz handheld antenna recommendations

I specified Motorola, and the package was marked as such, will see what they say. Just curious if your adapters have the pin flush with the bottom of the adapter?

Re: 220 MHz handheld antenna recommendations

I recently bought a motorola sma style antenna from Smiley. The center pin is not flush but recessed in the connector, needless to say my JT1000 went deaf. I returned the connector to them with a letter explaining the problem and have not heard back from them yet. The antenna itself if a great produ...

Re: MT100 Low Band 99 channel programming ?

I was able to program my P200 lb up to 52.525 without any hardware modifications and just over 5w output. You may need a 99chan codeplug for it to work. I also was able to program a MT1000 30-36 radio down to 28MHz without any changes and full 6w output at 29.100.

Model H99QX+052H ID H43YXN7139CN according to the chart shows scan capable. Am I wrong in calling it a Saber I? It has no front buttons or display, it has "Saber" top right on the face and "securenet-s" on the top. Well after reading a "note" on the saber description pa...

I have a saber I, top button opens the squelch, what function do the bottom two perform. One has 1 dimple, the other 2 dimples. I know it is scan capable so perhaps one toggles the scan function?, how do you know if the scan is on or off? I have the Saber rss manual but I don't see any reference to ...

All the individual bulbs light up, no signs of cap leakage or trace damage. Checked the RSS again and there are no options for the dim button. The display lights/dims as it should.

Re: Spectra Button Backlight Prob

I swapped the head out with a known good one from another radio and the backlite works fine now. I recall the backlite button being grayed out in the RSS not allowing any change to it. Going to look over the defective head, a quick look shows no signs of a leaking cap.

Astro Spectra Rib Cable

I have a dash mount Astro Spectra, it came with what appears to be a factory programming cable. It has the correct connector for the rib box and the other end has a connector that mates into the microphone port. All the programming cables I see on-line connect on the back of the radio, not the front...
