RSS Renewal
Here's a Legit RSS question, I have Syntor X9000 (and others) that is legit, I "bought" it from my dealer years ago. I have the box, manual, OEM disks, etc.
Problem is I don't have the card you send in to get updates for life. Lost in move, or something I guess. Is there any way I can get them now, without having sent that card in?

Card? What card? I registered and bought an MSF5000 RSS package. Came with one 3.5 inch floppy and a manual. Nothing else. I suppose they don't update that old software any more, so there's no need to give me lifetime updates. I wonder what lifetime is measured? Mine, Motorola's, the radio's, the product line?

HI:
If I read your post correctly, I am affraid you
have been mis-led.
1. You " Cannot " Buy " Legit " Motorola Radio Service Software
from a dealer ( Period ) No Exceptions.
2. Motorola does have a " License Kit " which is a RPX4719G
and once you are " Licensed " to purchase RSS from Motorola
you are then " Registured " and Licensed to use the Radio
Service Software as purchased from Motorola, Inc and Mototola
only.
So, in short, regardless if you have the Box, Manuel, and
Discs, you may not be Licensed to use the RSS.
Many persons " think " they may own the Software which
is inncorrect, all you are doing is buying the " Rights to Use"
the RSS as covered by the License.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but thats the facts....
But the Bright side....Motorolas RSS Prices on Old / Obsolete
RSS has sharply dropped in price....What was 350.00 sometimes
now is 75.00....
Most current radios still use RSS which is very expensive, and
in the case of CPS Based Software requires a different license.

In Canad Yes For Te Dealer and RSS
Here in canada when large end uses
buy radio from the local motorola MSS.
the shop will do all the paper work and the
end user has the Rss with the new radios.
They have been doing it for 16 years now.
The end user deals only with the motorola
shop.(Well that is what happens in CANADA).
Tom:
I'm not quite sure what "and others" covers, but I believe that the "current" X9000 RSS release is R08.01, released back at the tail end of 1995. Given that the last release was over eight years ago, there's a good possibility that an update is not even an issue.

Hi:
All I can offer, if they wish to be " legit " they MUST
follow the " Terms and Conditions " of the Radio Service
Software License kit.
Period
The two most common License kits which cover the main
body of Motorola Radio Service Software is the RPX-4719G
and RLN4809A.
Unless the Dealership in Canada is part of Motorola, they
could be in for a surprise unless when you say " They do
the paperwork " perhaps they do the License work
for the Customer.
Not uncommon for a Dealer to do that for a customer, but
the " Original Customer " is still Licensed to use the RSS and
its NOT transferable either.
I have sent in several License applications on behalf of a
customer, but they still have not purchased it from me.
If the Original Customer goes out of business, that liceanse
is no longer valid.

I knew this would open a can of worms...
I understand the theory of only buying the use of it... Big M still "owns" it. I had read in a post a while back about not being able to get it from your MSS, only M themselves, and thought that might be incorrect, since I got it from a good guy, manager of a shop, very trustworthy, and only guy in the state at the time I trusted with radios. Guess I was wrong.
So, I will shut the can by not trying to do anything futher, and as Humhead pointed out, it looks like I've got the most current version of that one anyway.
**Thread dropped by author! Sorry.

That is correct & is how it is done in Canada as well. 'We' don't sell the RSS, we simply do the paperwork on behalf of the customer & Motorola sells the RSS. I have seen where the MSS ends up being billed for the RSS & in turn the MSS 'resells' it to the intended customer. But since it was destined for them to begin with, probably not a big deal.Monty wrote:
