What radios do you own?: XTS/XTL & APX6000 & APX/XE

Newer GTXs are supposedly capable of Smartzone operation(according to MRSS). We have a 4 site Smartzone system. When we programmed the GTXs for S/Z and entered the control channels, everything looked fine for a couple months. The radios would affiliate with site 1, but for reason they then tried to switch to site 2 and repeatedly sent out affiliations, so much that the central controller at site 2 thought it was interference and went into failsoft. Reprogramming the radio to remove S/Z and all control channels but site 1 allows the radio to work on the system. We are passing all this along to Motorola but maybe someone else has had this kind of problem?? The GTXs we are having problems with so far all have FBG in the serial number

I have no idea why Motorola made the GTX capable of "Limited SmartZone". It just invites problems. The name says it all. "Full SmartZone" is what it's called in the LTS/LCS models. There is no RSSI threshold parameters, no adjacent channel monitoring, none of the things that allow a true SmartZone radio to work properly. They cause SO many issues on systems, most (including our provincial system) won't allow them on at all. You get what you pay for, they're less than half the price of an LTS/LCS equiped with the proper SmartZone option, so you shouldn't expect much. I'm sorry I cannot offer helpful advice to you on this subject, but your problem(s) really have an improper radio as the root of the cause.

Actually the new GTXs don't say limited smartzone- they say SMARTZONE and allow you to enter up to 32 control channels. We're not sure yet but this problem may be with the radio losing it's connect tone. Of course Motorola wants us to do all the testing.

Hmmm, I don't have a brand new archive to check, but in the RSS, although it shows "SmartZone" as one of the coverage types in the "Roam and Configuration Menu", your choices for it are "disabled", and "limited SmartZone". Has this changed in the last couple of months? They have always allowed 32 control channels with this configuration. What's missing is the "F7-Edit Smart" option in this screen, which shows you various different SmartZone parameters in the LCS/LTS RSS. A lot more that we can't see is missing as well. When you order the radios, do you also have to purchase a SmartZone software option that doubles the cost of the radio? If not, it still isn't true SmartZone.
