P25:what is it?

P25:what is it?

I am admittedly new to radio since 2 years now.Are their any informational sites online explaining what Project 25 actually is?I was not sure where to post this inquiry.If anyone has links to sites that explain P25 in laymans terms it would be much appreciated.Google searchs for the term usually result in companies offering thier P25 solutions.
