Saber III Error Code

Post by saintarctangent »

Powered on my ebay purchased Saber III for the first time. Got an ERR 0 C1. Is this thing toast, or can it be fixed?

Saber error code...

CORE microprocessor internal checksum error.
Try writing a simple program and dumping it into
the radio, assuming you know the exact "H" model
number. Others here will probably jump in with
additional suggestions and possibilities.

Was the sale "as is" or was it warranted to be a
working radio? If it's the latter I would return it to
the seller for a full refund. Problem is that most of
the eBay radio sellers know little or nothing about
the units they're selling and disclaim responsibility
when things such as this occur.

Ive fixed a few that have been 0 C1 with a fresh codeplug. It depends if you know your radios band and if its secure or not. Do you have the abiltiy to programm it? if it doesnt take a new codeplug it may be toast.

Simply reprogram a new CP and be done with it, then run the service menu and check those settings to ensure proper operation and peak performance as well.

Ebay Sabers are usually the useless Govt. split...403-433 Mhz, and the UHF modules are getting harder to locate every day.

You should build a fresh CP from the menu, selecting the proper radio, model and corresponding serial number, then the proper banc split as well.

Each model will show what it's capable of doing...scan, full keypad/display, 5 watts Etc....

There are sellers who do try to be as honest as they can, but more simply are trying to make a fast buck at your expense.

If they can't test, or program the radio/s they are selling, then they have no idea what they are talking about, it's that simple...avoid those sellers!

I think the radio will be just fine once you have a good CP loaded, and the radio aligned as well.

Once you get the basics taken care of, the rest will fall into place rather fast and easy.

I'm new to this . . . .

OK, I've ordered my RIB, cable and vintage 386 computer. Should be getting these in a few days.

Also, have RSS R07.01.00.

Is it pretty straight forward on how to load the CP into the rig?

Actually, I have two Saber III H43QXK7139CN. The one appears to be fine and the other gives the error. They're only two numbers different in serial numbers . . . which makes me think they're from the same agency and purchased at the same time.

Can I read the CP from the working radio and write it to the non-working radio? Any tricks I need to know when doing this?

S3 stuff...

Post by Tom in D.C. »

First of all, read the "good" radio and SAVE the codeplug. This
is the most important overall thing to take care of. Then...

Assuming the two S3s are the same exact model, and of course
the same bandsplit, you can read the codeplug from the "good"
radio and dump it into the radio with the error showing. The
program will ask you if you want to use the setup values that
are now in the "bad" radio or those that are in the codeplug, and
in this instance you want to use the codeplug values.

BUT...when you get all of your material set up and ready to go, you
could try just dumping a simple codeplug into the error radio to
start with. Go to the create menu, select the secure mode, then
go through the "H" numbers until you get to H43QXK7139CN,
then switch over to the channel setup screens. I've always used
the older V6 program but V7 is similar, the point being that the
RSS doesn't tell you after you've selected the setup model that
you're IN that setup mode; it just IS, so go ahead and then write
a couple of channels, like 146.52 T&R and 151.88 T&R, then
program them into the radio and see if it takes the program. If
it does, then dump in the program from the other radio and
you'll be all set to make changes to suit your needs for both
units.

When programming, which is pretty intuitive, remember that F10 is your friend, and is used to take you UP a level every time you use it, all the way to the point of exiting the program, but it warns you before it executes to leave the program.

Good luck.

Got my RIB and cable from Hong Kong on ebay. Cheap, and worked just fine. Created a boot disk for my Pent II computer, booted in DOS, crossed my fingers and all worked fine. Copied the plug from the 'good' radio and programmed the bad. Now works fine!

This is way cool!
