On Whelen's website they say that the Lin4s are horizontal mount. Has anyone mounted them vertically? I am trying to figure out if there is a big difference in the light spread pattern.

yes, there will be. The distribution of the light will be primarily vertical. I have seen them mounted every which way, and mounting them vertically limits the horizontal off axis of the light drastically. You are flipping the two axis, so you will reverse the published specs.

I have two LIN4's on my truck. If you have not purchased them yet then, if you can afford it go with the LINZ6s or LIN3s. They are much brighter I was disappointed with the light output and intensity of mine.
