Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
Any big advantage to upgrading my CPS to 17.00.00 when my XTS5000 radio is at ROS 15.x? FEDEX just dropped off another CD of RVN4181AN and I'm debating whether or not to load it on my PC.
My local M shop has not been able to get what they need flash upgrade my radio to the latest ROS/DSP. I suspect that their dealership level doesn't include high tier radios, and hence the problem getting what they need to do the job. I was told to call some M uberwanker myself to inquire, but that never got me more than an "I'll check into it." Thanks!
That being said, would there be a high-tier dealer outside my area who could do the work, or would that also turn into another cluster? I thought that ROS refreshes were supposed to be no big deal and no big cost.
That's why I like dealing with Thales - as a registered user, I can go to their customer site and download updates and flash the radios with a standard programming cable. Ditto for chargers. Did I mention free programming software from the Thales site? I love Motorola equipment, but hate dealing with them as a business. Way to complicated and expensive for what you get.
Enough ranting... 17.x CPS and 15.x ROS/DSP. Should I upgrade the CPS as a matter of routine?
Thanks,
-Pierre

V17 CPS does have two major tweaks (that don't require you update your radios' HOST and DSP) and they are:AL7OC wrote:Any big advantage to upgrading my CPS to 17.00.00 when my XTS5000 radio is at ROS 15.x? -allows you to disable radio wide write protect if an ASK is used (you of course have to have the ASK used to lock it down), but at least now it is possible to REMOVE an ASK write protect if ASK is used on a radio
-On XTS2500/XTL2500, you can now enable the HI/LOW RF power on a menu key
again, neither of these require an adjustment to the ROS. It's been confirmed on 4MEG XTS2500's with HOST/DSP V9-17.
FWIW, HOST 17 has been reported by some as problematic. I had no issues pushing it to both my 5000's and 2500.

I shouldnt have a problem programming an XTL2500 with 17.01.00 with older firmware correct? MOL will only mail me the latest version, but I dont want or need to update the firmware, radio is several years old but works fine without issue.

Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
As long as you don't enable a feature in CPS that the firmware doesn't support, it should work fine. If you do enable an unsupported feature, it usually results in a BOOP instead of a BEEP on POST, or like a unsupported menu item it just won't show up on the display.nrembis wrote:I shouldnt have a problem programming an XTL2500 with 17.01.00 with older firmware correct? Good, its conventional only with no QC or MDC, so should be ok then.resqguy911 wrote:As long as you don't enable a feature in CPS that the firmware doesn't support, it should work fine. Also another question on PM1500... MOL is showing:
HKN6183B
Cable CH Programming RS-232 GCAI
Isn't that the same cable for XTL2500/5000? Part numbers are showing different cables for PM1500/XTL1500,2500,5000,5000 05
Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
Yes, but.
You can only use the HKN6183_ to go through the mic jack on a PM1500. To program through the TIB you'd need the USB cable (HKN6184_)

Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
Got my 5K back from repairs with 17x ROS/DSP. Do I need to load V17 CPS to read the codeplug in the radio? I have V15 CPS loaded now and the V17 software in my desk drawer.
Thought that I'd ask before I hose the codeplug up!

You won't be doing anything to that radio with R15, let's put it like that

Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
OK! I cannot read out the codeplug in the radio after upgrading to CPS v17. The radio is at R17x. Do I open an old codeplug with the new CPS software, then download it to the radio, then read-back? Or do I read out the codeplug with v15 CPS, save the file, then re-open it with v17 CPS? I guess that I am slightly stupid as I thought that the v17 CPS would read-out a codeplug from a radio with 17x ROS. (D'oh!)
This is after the radio was refreshed to ROS/DSP 17x. The radio was returned with the same programming with the 17x upgrade.

Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
The radio has R17.01.01, so maybe that is why my last V17.00.00 CPS may not work. Uploading V17.01.00 CPS from the MOL site. Let y'all know if it works.

Re: Astro 25 R17.00.00 CPS
Case solved. My latest v17.00.00 CPS DVD will not work with the latest R17.01.01 in the radio. I downloaded v17.01.00 and it is working now. Don't know if M will be sending out new DVDs. The latest CPS version is dated April 2012.
