XPR6550 signaling hold time

Our setup requires us to scan 2 digital rx groups and 1 analog channel on the same carrier freq. We were experiencing a long delay 2-4 seconds for the radio to lock in on a channel due to the radios checking each channel for the proper coding and waiting for the signaling hold time to time out. The default setting was 1125ms. At motorola's suggestion we dropped the time back to 500ms and this helped with the delay but there is sometimes a longer than we want delay in locking in.

My question is how low can we drop the signaling hold time and the radio still lock in to the active channel.
