Hi Gang!

Does Motorola have lime green/fire dept touch up spray paint for their various fire radios, like the 02 lime green CH for the APX8500, or the fire dept remote spkr/mics for the APX8000?

Thanks!

No, because they are not painted. The color is within the plastic.

Roger on the molded in color (MIC). But, my Jeep Wrangler also has MIC (black) roof paneels and fenders. However, Jeep sells black touch-up paint for same, perfectly color matched so it blends in very nicely (I know, I've used their touch up paint on my Wrangler many a time after a day of rough trail driving!). I assumed Motorla also has touch up paint for their lime green radios and accrssories, in spite of these involving MIC.

Your best bet would be to take your radio to an automotive paint shop and have them color match a quart for you. Probably the only way you will get what you need. As far as I know, Moto no longer has touch up paint since all the cases are made in Malay.

Yup, that's what I have concluded, too. I guess I was just hoping against hope that maybe Mother M had some sort of a special color matched touch-up paint. Then again, I bet no FD would give a rip about touching-up scuff marks, scars, scratches, etc. on the case of an APX8000, or on a scraped-up 02 lime green APX8500 control head!

Oh, well...

Motorola has a video (or someone reposted it on YouTube) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWS8P99b-O0 which shows the proper way to clean the radio [Note: it's from 2017 and there might be a newer one if someone has that URL]. The cracks in the case are usually from using a cleaning agent which will eat away at the plastic. If you have cracks I would not paint over or otherwise hide them - simply replace the case. There's also been issues when people have replaced the cases and over tightened the screws as being another source of cracked housings.

Great point, Alex. Best bet is probably to send to Motorola depot, and have the case replaced, by them, thus no worries! In the end, this may just wind up being the most cost effective solution. Plus this way, I would be assured of return to factory new condition.
