M120 Programming Errors

Hi everyone you may remember me from a couple of weeks ago.

Well my programming cable and rib has finally arrived today.

I have connected it up on an old windows 95 machine and I keep getting the same error on both programs (version 4 and version 5 RSS)

when I go to read the radio the error says

"invalid op code #7"

Can someone please tell me what it means and how I can fix it please?

This error is reported when attempting to run the RSS in a Windows DOS box instead of booting DOS 6.22 as required for the RSS to work properly.

I have set the program to run in ms dos mode

I take it that even then it wont work.

so I need to install dos as the bootable OS?

that means I will have to download it first and then put it on to disks!!!

ugh I hate old radios!! lucky this one does 50w or else it would be worthy of a boat anchor lol

okay so you think if I instlal dos it will DEFINATLEY work then?? I mean...

that is the only thing that it oculd be right now? the fact its running through win95 and not dos?

If you read the numerous comments on this board about running RSS, it MUST be run in a pure DOS envronment. While it may seem to "run" under Windows attempts to program a radio may result in an error message at best or turn the radio into a "brick" at worst case.

Check out the info on the GM300/M120 page on Batlabs. It discusses the "OP code 7" error. It can also be caused by improper RIB voltage.

In any event, RSS must run in pure DOS. Some older RSS does not like anything faster than a 25 MHz 486. Newer versions will run on faster machines provided it is DOS.

I believe Maxtrac conventional also works on these. The last version was 98 so you can pump the proccessor speed up a little at least.

Get a windows 98 boot disk and boot to dos.
Do a search for MoSlo and use that to slow down the PC.
You might get away with it.

im going to stick with what all these other fellas reckon because that is the tried and true way

ive already half installed dos but i only have 1 floppy disk so each time in between loading disks I have to format it and write the next disk to it lol

I got it working not a problem

I did need DOS.
