XTS5000 Talk Permit tone on P25 conventional

Post by NSPD »

I have a friend asking me how to set up and XTS5000 to do Talk Permit tone on conventional channels. I found a video on youtube shouwing it done, but I can't figure out how to set it up in the CPS.

Also i'm having trouble decoding MDC ID's on my radio. It will not display decoded MDC ID's and it has the proper flash. Any ideas?

Thanks!

What is the flashcode and firmware version of the 5K in question?

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

I have text messaging setup on the 5K, per akerdam instructions.

Notice in the video, talk permit tone only was heard in p-25 mode?

Enable DVRS
Now that allows talk permit tone to be checked
now check "TA when no DVRS comms"

You must disable scan on these p-25 channels you want talk permit - otherwise there will be invalid fields. There are a few other invalid fields that need correcting - can't remember what these are right now :(

The talk permit tone does not sound like the video, but rather fail soft talk permit tone. Probably because it only works when the TA when no DVRS comms is check. I haven't gone any further, time for bed

This is just a start, we seen it work in the video..........

I followed your directions in the codeplug for an xts1500 model 1.5 and the only error that I saw was for the scan list.
I'm going to try to program it in tonight to see what happens, but it sounds pretty straight forward.

I used "Hightower" instructions and also get the Failsafe Talk permit tone when TX'ing. I hope Mike gives us the full explanation on this and how to get the correct Permit to Tone tone. This will be very valuable with my "clowns" I work with, that just have to start talking as soon as the button is keyed. Even the "Tx clear alert tone" is not good with some of them.

I agree, those keys are a conversion for your keyboard to make video editing easier I believe.

so, you edited in the sounds? thats kinda a let-down...

but... can it really be done? not the video editing, the talk permit tones instead of the long PTT tone... what makes the radio think that it needs to send the long tone, rather than the TPT? is that codeplug, is that radio based (i am sure it is)... it is accessable?

i really want that after seing it!

Eh, you guys get an A+ for the sleuthing.

The connect tone is actually my HT1000 set up for the 900hz Sidetone option for DTMF. The first set of PTT tones were done live, the second set were dubbed in (but recorded by me)

Sorry for the let-down, but hightower seems to have found a pretty good work-around.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

I was using this with a 440 quantar in town, and when the radio trys to "affiliate" with the quantar - it works!! You actually get the real sounding PTT tone.

What type of affiliation? Is it a HAM repeater? Trunking sites make a similar noise but a tad slower.

It's a stand-alone Quantar on Ham. It seems like when the radio trys to affiliate with the Quantar, and hears it come back, it thinks it's the DVRS module is my assumption.

One thing I've noticed, tho, is after I enable DVRS, it will TX Astro on any channel, reguardless if it's analog or not - and tries to "affiliate" (if that's what it's even doing; it seems to send 5 short Astro data packets whenever you change channels or switch from T/A)

I think it may have something to do with personalities that are analog having Mixed-Mode RX set - using Astro System 1 (Which has DVRS enabled). I'll have to check it out after I get home. FWIW, it's CPS 10.

Got it going on my 5k as well using R09.01.02 CPS and Firm 09.00.03. The only down fall to this is not being able to assign the personality a Scan List.
