XP: How to disable a not needed device driver?

I have an internal serial GPS. At times on bootup, XP thinks the incoming GPS data is a serial mouse. Now, one would normally just go into device manager and disable the device driver...but when the pointer doesn't stay put for more than 10ms and doing left and right clicks...its impossible.

So, is there a way to get in when thngs are working normally so the driver can be disabled to prevent this?

Step 1:

Backup.

Step 2:

Test your backup

Step 3:

Test your backup again, or maybe just backup again for the sake of doing just that.

Step 4:

Start -> Run.

Step 5:

type msconfig, hit enter

Step 6:

Restore your backup (in case your messing with step 5 causes a problem)

:) Have fun!

Disconnect the GPS first?

Its the internal trimble...

When it doesn't happen on bootup, no driver can be seen to be disabled. Its intermittent...and when its not a mouse, the GPS works perfectly.

Thinking about it some more - you could just disable the port in the bios....
