Don't know about "homebrewing" a DMR compliant radio but the HYT thing is true. I've seen and heard 2 portables talking through a HYT repeater on digital. 1 HYT and 1 Motorola. here's a link to a press release...

Not sure if I'd call it easy but all the technical specifications are public and someone with the knowledge and inclination could probably do it. Hytera's & HYT's DMR radios should theoretically be compatible with TRBO, as both are built on the DMR standards -- we'll probably find it's similar to P25 -- basic features may work but advanced features (IP Site Connect, Connect Plus etc) may not. I didn't find anything in the DMR standards that covered multi site trunking when I perused through them.

Yeah, I know the guy who did the test with the HYT on the Trbo ham network here. I have not personally gotten a chance to see the radio itself but I've heard it works just fine.

Just like the P25 world certain features (like TMS) will not work. Push and talk works great.

HYT works fine on TRBO, but does not support ConnectPlus - that's a proprietary feature from Moto. From my understanding, IPSC works since that's handled entirely on the repeater side.

Anyone having a source for HYT pricing please post same. Seems to be something of a secret at this time.
