DCS vs PL?
Hi all; I'm curious to get your thoughts on this. As I've posted in another thread, I'm toying with the idea of getting some kind of repeater on the air, even if just one of those "I want to see if I can do it" kinda projects. Anyway, I was wondering what your suggestion would be in terms ...

Well, I've done some looking and yes, I agree I wouldnt use the 70 for duplex...from what I read online it has superior TX audio, so I think I'd just use it for that. I've got a UHF Mitrek that I'm hoping to use as the UHF transmitter. It came with a PAC/RT that's only x-tal'd up for RX -I guess it ...

Yeah, I have only had it setup on a repeater pair. When transmitting with the tone, it would only on the repeater in. If I placed the radio in direct, the tone would not transmit. If you think about it, singletone was developed for repeater access, so hence the above situation. PJ; I'm curious if m...

We tracked a guy down here a while ago who was messing around on a local ham repeater (as well as on the police repeater and such)...basically we listened and found a pattern...in the AM, he was really weak to the west and strong to the east, and in the PM it was different. His signal always had alt...

I believe the singletone was only intended to open repeaters that required it on the astro series. Last time I looked, there is no decode option to the radio. Singletone will not work on simplex channels (you can program it, but the radio will not send it). So I guess that alert tone I have on a si...

Generally speaking, when I charge my batteries, I let the thing start to beep first, once it's beeped two or 3 times, turn the radio off, and back on, then wait for it to start beeping again. Then I'll throw it into a standard rapid charger, wait for the light to show green, which as explained befor...

Yep, it depends on what you want. The XTS5000 has yet to be hacked, but to my knowledge, the 3500 can. As the other guy said, the 3500 doesn't officially support trunking, but I know a few people who have the Nick radios that does trunking just fine. The 3500 is also cheaper. If you want a radio for...

Hi there; Well first of all, what split do you have? These things don't really like to play that much out of band. I had a 403-430MHz model that didn't appreciate going above 434 all that much. But, it's quite simple to make it go out of band, at least as far as programming is concerned. http://www....

Mocom 70 Repeater information needed
Hi all; I'm working on converting a Mocom 70 mobile to use in a repeater setup. I remember reading somewhere that you can convert the radio to work as a duplex radio, only requiring an external controller and duplexer...but I've been unable to find any information in this regard. Failing that, I'd l...

the XTS is the COSMO line and shares not a damn thing with Jedi except the side accessory port/programming cable and maybe the antenna. Ah, my apologies. Hi Adam; Well, on my MTX2000's, I can do PTT-ID, Emergency and Status/Messages. As for hacking the radio with MTSX Lab, well, I can only assume this would work, as it works just fine on every other MTSX (except the MTS, of course), but you'd have to give it a try. Just backup the radio's brains with...

Well, just my 2 cents, but... If you're in the business of programming radios for anybody but yourself and you aren't a licensed user, you're asking for trouble. If you program radios to access ANY system, conventional or trunked, that the person isn't authorized on, you deserve every bit of heat yo...

Hey all, I've got a question that's been bugging me for awhile. I've got a VHF XTS3000 that has an annoying problem. The radio works perfectly, except for the key tones.
