Re: What does "rugged" really mean? JT1000
What RS said. The JT1000, and all Jedi radios, while fairly rugged compared to most hammie stuff, are not known for watertightness. The biggest entry point is through the speaker grille, they use a paper cone speaker and a piece of felt for a gasket. Any submersion is not a good thing for a Jedi rad...

Re: XTS/XTL listen only talkgroup feature
This feature is exactly what many have asked for, especially for media radios. This way, they can listen without being allowed to talk on the selected RX only talkgroup. As has been noted, the registration has to be valid and radio will still TX subscriber updates on those selected RX only talkgroups.

it's a fair question. In the USA, CB is a regulated service, and only part 95 equipment can legally transmit on CB frequencies (which encompass more than just 27MHz, MURS and GMRS are also part 95). Alignment.
Even if the RX is slightly off frequency, it's enough to make for a poor digital experience, but sound totally acceptable in analog.
When was the last time the radio was aligned? If not, this is the starting point.

5000 for serviceability and expandability (encryption). The 5K is easy to fix if the knobs or case ever get fubar'ed, just slap a new one on. So long as the LCD isn't damaged, it's good as new. Much more rugged radio.
OTOH, the 2500 is more "carry friendly" but only slightly.

One thing that SHOULD be done is to require that all x-TAC repeaters be crossband. For example, if you have a 7/8-TAC-X, it should be located and linked to a corresponding V and U-TAC x repeater. That way, no matter what RF band or format of radio a person has, they can still talk if needed. If the ...
