t2k -- if your asking if a Ht1000 can communicate with a MT1000 yes if its on the same frequency, pl/ctcss ect. its not less reliable.... or is there something else? you can buy the MT1000, program it, post your questions here...I'm sure someone will reply. the above posts about Wideband vs. Narrowb...

HLA has a point! min. a Ht1000, 16 channels, If you need more channels you can get an Mt2000 up to 160 channels, both take the same rib to radio cable, both take the same batteries.... depends on what the application is for? the mouser.com part# 412-109033 works good! for extra protection, put in a Good 9v battery. We also plug most equipment into APC UPS units... we get brownouts & surges here due to the high winds right now....

that will work for starters! LMR400 is good Hardline. How far is your receiver from where the antenna is going to be? but if its just for recieve, you can get away with a RG cable, you want a good ground also! Since your on a farm, you can drive a (copper if you can) rod down in the earth.
