I am running into an issue I have never ran into before, I have 2 XTS5000s running some really old firmware R02.20.02 & R02.20.00 DSP. When I try to update the FW to R20.xx.xx I get an error "unable to create instance of Encaten Component" i assume this is because of the really old fw ...

also when working with simulcast, your reference is critical and thus the reason for an external 10MHz or 5MHz reference. For a simulcast to operate correctly your ideal freq error should be no more then plus or minus 2Hz yes thats right +/- 2Hz This way all sites that can be heard by the subscriber...

Each Bim has 4wire capablity as mentioned but also has logging, each slot in the card cage has a specific row on the punch block, there is a punch block road map in the centracom CEB manual. Each slot in the card cage will give you 3 rows on the punch block, 2w 4w and logging...

The old furniture is made out of metal and wood, the wood of course is the tabletop. The consoles did come with a corner wedge because I used to have to haul the old furniture away about 10 years or so ago when the gold elite started being installed and comcens started using adjustable workstations....

check the battery contacts, one of the contacts senses the battery and the voltage, make sure that there is nothing messing with that contact, if you need another charger I have a pallet full of them....

well for one the audio on the MCS2000 is a floating ground so any short can and will blow the audio IC. There is a 5v regulator that has known to have a cold solder joint on it, if this is the case the radio will not power up. Try reflowing solder on the 5v regulator and replace the IC for the audio...

Are you positive? I had the same thing happen to me when I reprogrammed my radio and I up'd the firmware to ver 12 and I was able to recover it. I had to do a massive realignment though.

Well you could buy a desktop CC2 op position and that will help get rid of the big stack of metal you no longer wish to use. If you have TOMIs you have a CC2+. There is RSS out there for the CC2 plus that will help you reconfigure your system. You will need a RS232 card to PC cable and the software..

check the audio amp, and see if it has a burn mark in the middle of it. If the speaker leads ever get shorted to ground it will pop that amp. The best way to check the amp is with a scope. Generate a signal into the radio and look for the 1k tone in the scope before the amp. If there is signal there...

Why not just update the CEB parts to Gold Elite? Mostly, what you need is a COIM module. Post your findings after you do, if you do. A COIM itself is not going to work, you need a CIE to go along with that plus you have to upgrade the firmware to match the existing cards plus the BIMS, AUX I/O card...
