Any feedback on the new EF Johnson Viking VP600 800 radios and if they work with a Motorola P25 digital trunk?

They will work just fine on a Motorola 7.x as well as legacy 3600 systems.

I'd wait a year or two before buying one for personal use.
The bugs should be worked out by then.

My VFD is thinking about field testing one. Just was not sure about compatibility with our Moto system. We are tied into the Austin, Tx regional trunk

I've seen them in person; they're nice, kind of like a XTS with dual-display. Dual-band operation is supposed to be a future option.

They also support DES-OFB and PID key loading if you're still stuck using a 3011DX keyloader.

Compatibility with the system shouldn't be a problem with the new radio.
Viking radios can do SmartNet, SmartZone and P25 across MOT, EFJ and Harris systems.
AES and DES encryption is supported in ALL Viking radios.
EFJ MultiNet is not supported in the radio.
You should only have to worry about the radio hardware and battery life.
Compare it to radios that you are currently using and make a judgement call.
