MOSTAR UHF Conversion

Post by KI4BOO »

I traded an older 2 Meter transceiver for 2 Mostar UHF radios and a mag mount for 800MHz (To be cut for 900).

One of the radios has a 16 channel dial, and the other is single channel.

I wanted to convert them for 33CM Amateur, to use as an around town simplex setup to keep in touch with home, or possibly make a parabola antenna to talk with two other hams who use 900MHz in the general area.

I've read a lot of doom and gloom about these rigs on this site. So I am asking... Are they worth the effort? Assuming I find someone with the equipment to reprogram these radios, are they suitable for using on that band?

if they are indeed 800mhz units,

toss them in the dumpster

find a GTX 900Mhz mobile - they kick butt on 33cm
