Wow! I figured Big M would be milking it to the end but I guess maybe due to the bad publicity they won't. Either that or maybe there IS an inherant "Bug" with the 3500 series.....

XTS3500 to be discontinued

Have Heard that XTS3000 is being Discontinued
I was told by a very large Moto Customer that the 3K is being discontinued also. Has anyone else heard this? The 5K lists for the same
price as the 3K and has more features so I don't know why anyone except hobbyists would buy the 3K?

Seems rather coincidential (sp?) that Motorola is disco'ing all the "hacker friendly" radios, ie, Astro Saber, Astro Spectra, XTS3000, in favour of the ones you can't "tweak"...
I do question why the XTS3500 is being cancelled after a relativly short production run. Look at a radio like the analog Spectra...it went for something like 10+ years, and is still, in my opinion, the analog radio of choice. What also doesn't make sense is why the heck is the XTS3500 not available in a trunking model...seems to me it would make sense to at least make it capable should customers wish to upgrade to trunking.

Cancellations
Expect to possibly see the following radios cancelled this year, MTS series, XTS 3000, XTS 3500 and possibly two more. The big push will be to the XTS 2500,and 5000 for users with the 2500 replacing the MTS and the 5000, the XTS 3000 & 3500... ( Yes they are looking at adding a RF switch to the XTS 2500 so it can have a public safety mike.)

Re: Cancellations
Why can't you have an XTS2500 with a public safety mic now? The RF adaptor is a separate piece that fits over the SMA antenna adapter, unlike the MTS2000 which is a button of sorts on the accessory jack.1 Adam 12 wrote:Expect to possibly see the following radios cancelled this year, MTS series, XTS 3000, XTS 3500 and possibly two more. The Astro Spectra is on the chopping block too. Expect to see that canceled by July...at least at the earliest. I had the rep do a quote for 7 Astro Spectra's vs 7 VHF XTL5000's, and the XTL's came in $30 more. He said now that UHF/VHF XTL's are out, no need for the Spectra's...as well as the Astro Spectra Plus.
