Motorola HTs that are front programmable?
Hi, everyone. Can anyone tell me what Motorola HTs made in the last ten years or so, are front programmable? No, I don't mean radios like the GP68, PRO models, or GP2000. I have emailed several people about the GP2000, and most of the radios have already broken (oh my!). I mean radios as good in quality as the JT1000 (which is front programmable). The only radios I have seen that are front programmable are the JT1000 and the HT1550XLS. I was reading on here and read that several people had problems with the HT1550XLS. So, are there any other radios that are front programmable besides the JT1000? If so, what are they? I really like the JT1000, but I wish it had more channels (I can live without gobs of channels, I suppose ). Any info. you can give me would be helpful.
PS,
If there are any Motorola dealers that can assist me in products above, please PM me on this board.

--Hi. Sorry, what do you mean by "Q52". I could have sworn that the JT1000 was front programmable. The JT1000 had to have some sort of speaker/mike key. Ugh, there are so many models of HTs, it is getting confusing, . Thanks for your help.batdude wrote:ahem

Oh, how much does the XTS5000 go for? A lot, I presume.

Anything that will save a buck! Thanks for the info.Jim2121 wrote:I know several people that have GP68's for almost 8-10 years. A few have the GP2000 since it came out.
If you treat it good, it will last.

FPP question...
Watch out. The GP68 has no alpha display, only the channel number and frequency. Otherwise a great radio; I had two of them for several years with no problems except for remembering how to program them.

remember, the gp68 is also an export radio. Its not serviced at a motorola repair shop. Its not FCC approved anymore. Do a Search above for GP68 and, you will see a bunch of posts come up..
And better look this over as for programming

I also have a service manual (in .pdf) for the gp68
myself, I perfer a JT-1000. but thats just my 2 cents

Re: Motorola keypad Programmable Radios
I also have had a few GP-68's and currently have 2 GP-2000's with no problems what so ever. I just don't care for the way Motorola laid out the front panel of the 2000 placing the speaker on the bottom which is unlike 99% of the other Motorolas out there.Jim2121 wrote:I know several people that have GP68's for almost 8-10 years. For hams, both the 68 and 2000 are cool since you can use the radio in a "vfo" mode with direct frequency enrty.
I also have a GP2000 and like it. It's not a tough as some other /\/\ HT's, but it's not bad for casual use. My biggest gripe about the radio is the exposed PTT button - it's very easy (I find) to key the radio unintentionally because the PTT is exposed and not covered like on may other /\/\ HT's.
Also, being able to program it on the fly is a huge plus, but for initial set-up and programming, it's worth it to have the software.
