IMPRES Charger question

Post by Mfire39 »

Hello all, quick question.. I have a single unit IMPRES charger #WPLN4114AR that I bought used. It didn't come with a user guide, which leads to my question. Under the charger there is a 2-position slide switch labeled A-B, and it is currently set on A. I was just wondering if anyone knows what this switch is used for?

Thanks,

-Marc

From the manual:

The conditioning charge feature of this system creates an audible "ticking" sound in the receiving radio during rapid and trickle charge modes of operation. This sound is caused by periodic discharge pulses to the battery. Should the sound be objectionable to the user, changing the switch position located on the bottom of the charger from position "A" to position "B" reduces the frequency of the discharge pulses. This has minimal impact on the effectiveness of the charger.

OK. Well... That answers the age old question: Is it OK to leave a radio ON while it's on (an IMPRESS) charger...

In theory yes.
However I don't do it.

Just out of interest
impress 3.4 is about to be released.
This will allow the chargers to work with the new impress
batteries for the XTS2500/XTS2250.
they are releasing a standard. FM and ruggadized FM

If you have lots of chargers you can buy the programmer of MOL for less than $200

RLN5671A IMPRES FLD PROGMR W/NA/LA PLUG
These arrive with no software so you need an MOL account to download the latest (free).

3.4 is due out on the 1st March

If you only have one or two chargers take them to your local MSS as they should have one but make sure they get 3.4 off MOL.

Unless you are going to use XTS2500 impress there is no need to upgrade from 3.3

It depends what batteries you are charging.
Like I said 3.4 adds XTS2500 impress
Previous versions added other battries.
I don't know what though.
My guess would be early versions were for the MTS2000 series as I think they were the first impress stuff.

Also some versions would be pure improvements to the charging algorithm.
I see if I can find out tommorrow,
