MT1000 questions
Very sorry if this was answered previously on here, but the search didn't yield the results I need.
Thinking of buying a used MT1000 in VHF-Low. This is for my part-time job's area. The deal is good, and I think I found a convertacom for it already.
Will the MT1000 do MDC1200, and will it do Select-Call? It is the 99-channel unit. I have not seen the radios to decode anything off the model number as yet.
Thanks!
MK

Re: MT1000 questions
To do MDC1200 with an MT1000, you'll need an MDC1200 "front panel", they can be found on ePay from time to time, and if you ask the right people, you might be able to find one here.
Re: MT1000 questions
Thanks. What is the difference, just so I have an idea of what I'm looking at on the Bay.

Re: MT1000 questions
When looking at the side profile of a MT1000 you would notice the non-signalling front has a taper below the speaker area. On the signalling front the thickness of the raised speaker area continues a couple of inches down, this is where the extra electronics is housed. There were many different options available in the signalling fronts, even the DTMF fronts came in 3 different varieties.
Might want to try a WTB here 1st or if you find one elsewhere find out the part# I might have a reference in my old source books.

The optional front panel types that support MDC1200 Unit ID are:
NTN5456A/B Unit ID Only (no emergency button or keypad)
NTN5457B Unit ID and Emergency (emergency button, no keypad)
NTN5458B Unit ID and DTMF or Single Tone and DTMF (keypad, no emergency button)
NTN5459B Unit Id, Emergency and DTMF (emergency button and keypad)
NTN6009A/B Unit ID and Emergency with Man Down (Similar to NTN5457B but also activates emergency if tipped greater that 60 deg)
There are also DTMF only keypad versions without MDC1200.
NTN5697A DTMF encode/decode
NTN5596A Continuous Tone DTMF encode
NTN5040A DTMF encode (timed tones)
NTN5395A DTMF with ANI (timed tones)

Yes most all MT1000, HT600, HT600E radios have Quick Call II two tone sequential decoding and alerting capability.
Re: MT1000 questions
According to the my MT1000 manual (68P1067C40-B), they didn't make a 99 ch lowband version.
Supposedly it was only 32.
I am curious, maybe the "display" version would do 99.
If you get a chance to try putting over 32 in your radio, it would be nice to know if they would go above that.
I have wondered about this for awhile.
If you find out, post or PM as that would make a nice radio for 6 meters.
Supposedly it was only 32.

Re: MT1000 questions
The 99 channel low band MT1000s that I have personally programmed were much like the Radius M214 mobiles in the advertised vs actual channel capacities. The Radius 214 was supposedly a 14 channel radio so as not to challenge the 16 channel capacity of the branded MaxTrac. I never encountered a 214 that wouldn't do 16 channels. The MT1000 low band was the same kind of thing. I never saw one that wouldn't do 99 channels. Though they were listed as being 32 channel units in all the literature, the firmware and software responded to adding channels just like the high band and UHF models did. I had one of my own for several years that actually had 99 channels in it, so I don't think you'll have a problem.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.
