XTL5K Remote 05 to 03
I've just changed my control head from a remote 05 to an 03.
Radio is programmed with R13, and has soft power off enable so will turn on with ignition, or at the press of the power button.
That worked fine on my 05 head.
The new set up is the 03 head and 17ft cable (PMLN4958A), same length i had with the 05.
Problem is the 03 head wont work, as such.
With ignition on, i get a very short green light, then a very short red light, and nothing.
Alot shorter than the second or so that it should be to start up.
if i try using the power button i get nothing either, no lights at all.
I havent got anything from the screen.
Flashcode still has 05/03 selected for the remote head.
So where am i going wrong?
Thanks,
Alex

Try it without the ext. cable? Also is this a known working head? Do you have another TIB board you could try?
So your not getting fail 1/90 or maint. mode?

Re: XTL5K Remote 05 to 03
Tried some more playing today.
Nope not getting a fail or maintenance mode, nothing at all screen stays blank, just a very short blip of light.
I'm trying straight from the TIB at the radio with out the extension cable, unfortunately i don't have another to swap over.
I've tried both can plugs, as well as re writing the code plug with the 03 head attached.
I'm not sure if the radio is turning on as the speaker is currently connected to the 05 head. Ill be changing that once my extension cable arrives, just trying to make sure the head works first.
I've got CPS R14 but haven't got around to installing yet, i may try with that, and i could test on my mates working radio w/03.
Other than that i'm out of ideas.

High or mid power and where are you inputing ignition at?

Re: XTL5K Remote 05 to 03
Mid Power.
Ignition sense is tied into the rear plug along with USB programming cable and speaker output.
Other end of that is runto a fuse block, which runs off a relay thats triggered from the cigarette lighter socket.
05 Head currently turns on fine with ignition no worries.
Another suggestion made to me was to upgrade / sync the firmware on both the radio and 03 together, so ill have to look into that and teach my self how to do that too.

If you have a firmware mismatch the head would come up in maint. mode so I doubt that is the issue. What is the firmware of the radio though? It must be at least 9 to support the O3 I believe.
The head isn't powering on. It has its own processor so to speak and should come on. My guess is a defective head.

R12.00.17
I guess ill have to try it on a known working radio and go from there.
Thanks for your help.
Really appreciate it!

Just need to sync the head to the brick.
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Sorry for asking an obvious question, but you are giving it at least 10 seconds to power up before disconnecting anything, right? The O3 tales a lot longer to power on than the O5 and longer even than an Astro Spectra. I want to say it's something like 5 seconds, but don't hold me to that.
I have one running on an R09.xx.xx version radio so they do in fact work that low. It briefly blinks green, pauses... pauses... then powers on and takes off.

Yep we've got 03's in the head. Im aware of the 5+ second start up time with the green light.motorola_otaku wrote:Sorry for asking an obvious question, but you are giving it at least 10 seconds to power up before disconnecting anything, right? I've finally got it all set up the following are my observations, as soon as the radio gets ignition power, the green link blinks for a quarter of a second, very short, then nothing further.
Once the radio has completed its 5, 6 second or so start up the radio does the usual single beep, and i get a decent red flash from the control head. Luckily the volume is turned down at the moment and its stuck on an active channel! As its on a trunking channel at the moment it will also give a red flash with affiliating etc.
However none of the buttons work, nothing at all from the screen.
Now, i've tried the Sync Control Head option, and have two files to choose from;
* Astro_25_CH_AG.cvn
* Astro_25_CH-AK.cvn
The first problem is it says i should use the USB - GCAI port on the radio, i don't have one of those cables.
My programming cable is USB into the rear of the radio with ignition sense and speaker output, but i tried anyways.
With the first AG file i get to Block 9/20 and get an error message, "No matching control head software was found for the radio version R120017, please get the correct Sync FIle."
WIth the second AK file, i get to Block 10 and it states, "Searching sync file for Control Head Software", then get an error message" Sync Failed." and closes the port.
I can still however read and write the radio.
I haven't had the chance to try the Control Head on my mates radio yet, hopefully i will do that next weekend.
So is it a problem with the firmware process / programming cable.
Or is the Control Head cactus?
Thanks

Re: XTL5K Remote 05 to 03
The latest FW upgrade for the head sync is Astro_25_CH_AL.
That may help you, if not PM me, I may be able to offer some tips/assistance.
