XTL5000 W7 programming

Post by firetech792 »

ok, after reading different threads all morning, I'm confused.
I have a few early version XTL5000 radios with the older "W" heads. Mid power, remote mount.
I went to program one figuring I was going to use my "O" head programming cable and found its different. Can any one recommend the proper programming cable? I'm reading the mic jack is easiest but there is also a square port on the rear. Again, this is with the older Astro Spectra type heads these radios were supplied with before the "O" heads came out.
Thanks in advance.

Get a USB-to-rear cable, part #HKN6163B. It and its serial counterpart are just about the only XTL cables that will work on every configuration, save maybe for consolettes.

Since you have to crack open the case in order to program it anyway, might as well...
