MTS2000 on 900 MHZ HAM

Post by 10-95 »

I was under the impression that the 900 mhz MTS radios neede no harware mods to do the ham band. I have one that i programmed on 906.500 mhz and it seems to transmit fine but it does not seem to receive.
Anyone have any input on this??

Thanks,

900 mHz MTS2000

Hi,

The Jedi 900 (MTX9000, MTS2000) radios will work on the 902/927 "split" SOMETIMES. Not all radios will lock the Receive or Talkaround VCO at 927 (902 TX is never a problem!). We haven't found any reliable way to tell by looking at serial numbers - they either do or don't, and unless you are a very skilled practitioner of miniature circuitboard maintenance techniques, you won't be able to "tweak" the VCOs.
In addition, there is a receive filter that is starting to roll off somewhere around 926, so receiving below 925 is unlikely in any case.
That said, a "good" one is a very nice radio for the 902/927 split!

BTW, a GTX will generally lock it's VCO across the entire band, but the receiver has the same filter problem. (and the filters are NOT tunable, but can be replaced, I'm told.)
