Dead M1225

I am looking at a friends Radus M1225 mobile. It is used in a local D-Star Repeater as the TX. The radio does not seem to go through any self test when it is powered up. Sometimes a strange character appears on the display. I cannot talk to it over the programing port.

I have only briefly looked at it, it lights up and there is 8v @ the regulator on the board.

I have not completely pulled the main board out to get at the processor chip. I know sometimes you can get a bad cap on the por line on processors.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions.
