How easy is it to swap out the outer case on the APX series? Is there a tool like the XTS series?

Thanks

Chris

Its easy, just remove the speaker grill and the two screws at the bottom. Then spread the case and remove, I have found it easier to remove the acc connector side first and pivot it on the ptt side so as to not damage the ptt popple.

Here are some additional details about replacing an APX 7000 case:

The screws are T-8 Torx.

Remove the radio's antenna and side auxiliary connector cover.
Remove the six screws showing. The top two don't come into view until you remove the speaker cover.
Remove the main speaker cover which is held in place by the middle set of screws.
Lift out the main speaker assembly. It has automatic contacts to the main board, not a plug or harness.
Note the green aux connector plug. If it falls out put it back in place when you reassemble the unit.
Using something like a small-tipped screwdriver, gently start the aux connector side of the old case down and
away from the metal chassis. The case is somewhat flexible but being plastic it has limits, so go slow. As you
get the plastic more and more away from the chassis the looser it will become and it will soon simply come away
from the chassis. Put on the new case the same way, being careful not to bend the plastic too much. As you
progress the new case will snap into place.
Replace the speaker assembly and speaker cover. Put all the screws back in place. Check the new case for proper
fit and alignment. Power up the radio and check all the buttons and the touchtone pad for proper operation and you're done.
One additional note: There were no gaskets or sealing devices seen when changing the case.

Thanks Tom.

I bought a full color case, the speaker grill will be made for sale later.

Apparently the all-yellow case is for LE and PS, where the blue, red, etc. partial-color cases are
for vanity applications, or something. I'd still like a blue speaker cover for the "back" of the radio,
though to tell the truth I'm still not sure which side is the front.
