MTS2000 & CPS...

Okay here is an interesting one...

My MTS2000 UHF which was last programmed with CPS R02.03 now won't be read by CPS! It has been taken apart and re-seated with the same issue.
Doesn't matter what cable or computer I use either.

Myself and another ham here are thinking maybe it's a doorstop now as far as programming...Anyone got a suggestion I can at least try??

Regards,

-Frank C.

Does the radio power up and go through self-test?
What does the firmware show on service mode?
Any error messages/numbers?
What cable are you using (direct RS232 serial to PC)?
Using WinXP or Win7 and above? (the latter doesn't work too well).

Yes the radio powers up and self-tests fine. No error messages.

Firmware shows R05.44. I've programmed this radio just fine in XP using CPS R02.03 just fine before, so I'm not sure why it's goofing.

When I try using Tuner it does give me "unsupported model" when trying to read it.

I've had this problem creep up before, and I think it's firmware related. Pre 6.xx firmware doesn't always play nice with CPS. IIRC the MTS2000s I had at the time were R5.42 and would program fine (CPS R02.03) on an old 400MHz P2, factory RIB and cable, but would just plain not work with a faster CPU.

I have the ability to slow down my CPU, perhaps that might work? I guess I'll have to wait for the CF-28 I'm waiting for and see if that will program it.

Not really, it's more related to UART type and speed than anything.
Trying another (older) computer like that CF-28 may be what you need.

Ribless cable, or cable with rib. I use a Windows XP laptop with a Maxton ribless cable on all my XTX3000's & MTS2000's, but I have 1 MTS that's 5.41 FW, & it will not read/write with the ribless cable. For that I must use a rib, & cable. All the other MTS radios have newer FW. Strange, but true. GARY

Have you tried a real rib with a slower dos only computer ?
