how to program talkgroups when dealing with ham repeaters

Post by danblashkc81 »

Hi guys. Newbie question here. Using cps r20.01.00 and programming an xts5000 UHF Model I. What is the correct way to program ham repeaters that are p25? I get that you would program tx freq, rx freq, tx nac, and rx nac, but what if they have talkgroups, like so?

10100 - World Wide
10200 - North America
10300 - Europe
10400 - APAC

10101 - WW TAC1
10102 - WW TAC2
10103 - WW TAC3
What is the proper way to program the talkgroups in an astro system and assign them correctly in the zone/channel assignment page so you can use the channel select knob to switch between talkgroups?
Any help is appreciated,

OK on display models it common to program a TGRP menu item to select talkgroups. But since you have no display ...

Strapping TG selection to the channel switch is easy. You define one ASTRO system to suit. Then on the ASTRO Talkgroup tab prepare one list and enter in the TGID first column 1, 10100, 10101, etc, followed by the alias text if required (don't know if this shows up in CPS on a M1), TGID 1, World, TAC 1, etc, and set the Secure/Clear strapping to Clear.

Now head over to Conventional Personality and create a personality for each channel you want to hit with your selector knob. You do this by creating first one personality and then carefully checking all the options that are appropriate, then use the CUR button at foot of the screen so that as you add new personality using the green + button they are copies of the first one you defined. Then go back and update the ASTRO Talkgroup tab on each personality ticking Talkgroup, setting the selection Type to Strapped, Talkgroup List to 1, and the Talkgroup ID to the relevant ID index for the TG in the ASTRO Talkgroup list you did earlier.

The last step is create channels in the zone you want to use (again use the CUR button to create a template for the RF freqs required and then insert copies using the + button). On each channel set the Personality # to match the approatratie Conventional Personality defined above.
