APX quandry

Don't know if this should be here, or in the programming section. I have an APX, & I program it with Regular CPS 16.00.00. FW is 14.51.00. When I go to the info section, it tells me the last date I programmed it, but it also says programmed last with DEPOT, which I do not have. This happened when I used CPS 14, & now CPS 16. What gives? Pretty simple....someone before you used Depot on it to modify the flashcode.

Yes. This is true. But on my XTL/XTS radios that were similarly "upgraded", they all show last programmed with CPS. GARY.

I've seen this on other radios that I've had that were upgraded like that. CPS always shows Depot for last modified by. Just a quirk of CPS, I guess.

And just to clafiry, those were radios that I bought that were already modified before I bought them. I have no need for Depot or adding other features.

Same here. Radios bought from E-Bay from reliable sellers who I've dealt with before. They work perfectly, so I don't care. Many people make a big deal when selling a radio stating "never hit with Depot", but for my hobby radio, I could care less. That's what it takes to get FPP. GARY

Radios that were legitimately repaired in Juarez can come back with "Born on" dates that don't match the serial and "Last programmed with: Depot" flags set, so this isn't necessarily a reliable indication of a hacked/stolen radio. And yes, it is persistent even when read and programmed with normal CPS.

This is a defect (or maybe intentional) in recent versions. It is possible to remove the depot flag by modifiying the software, but JSC radios used to show factory instead of Depot.

There is a tracking mechanism built into the radios firmware now that tracks modifications.
