XTS5000 UHF narrowband question

Have searched and not found an answer....

I have several XTS5000 UHF (i.e. 403-470) portables. Nothing in the feature sets reference the narrowband only restriction. Using CPS version 20. Firmware is R12.00.13. The CPS allows me to program ham and GMRS channels with 5.0 KHz but the radios do not transmit wide, only narrow (confirmed with service monitor and a wideband ham receiver). These radios were donated to our SAR group by a federal user who had no need for wideband. Great radios, great condition.... but ....

Reading the CPS help files references the FCC mandate, but gives nothing to indicate how to tell. Am wondering if this is just hardcoded and no way allow wideband?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Every XTS5000 can do narrow band. In CPS you set the deviation field ("Tx Opt Transmit Dev") to 2.5 kHz. This will, in turn, change the read-only value of the "Tx Opt Channel Spacing" to show "12.5 kHz" (narrow). Note, there's also a separate deviation field for talkaround.
