APX6000XE Housing

I am looking to switch the APX6000XE 2.5 radio to a 3.5 Housing, I do not care if the Touch tones work....
3.5 Housings are MUCH LESS $$$$$$$, So my question is will a 3.5 housing work on the 2.5 radio with out any firmware
or other modifications?
