Maxtrac Conversion Problem - The Rest of The Story

Post by w1ksz »

I posted the following the other day ...

I have a Maxtrac D37 that transmits OK up to 902.4 and at 927.5 (T/A) without the VCO mod (never saw one do that before), but will not go to 902.6 MHz. Tried the VCO mod (using copper tape) and still can't get it to work at 902.6. The firmware is FRN4007C.
I thought I read somewhere that at 902.5 the VCO switches to the T/A vco, or am I having another "moment" ??

One reply was in the same vein as mine, a second had the problem bacwards while the remaining 7 degenerated into a P$%$%^ Contest about Motorola Firmware.
Then some swift person locked the thread so even I, the original poster, could not reply.

You guys have descended into a state of paranoia over Motorola.

I'll look elsewhere for any further assistance.

I would like to appologize openly, it was not meant to be taken in that context that i was looking for a hand out of firmware.

But enought about that.

From the Batlabs "things we are looking for page"

"SYNTOR X-9000

Also looking for info on using one control head with 2 drawers (UHF and VHF). We have some of the info, just need some schematics. If anyone has an image of the SP04 firmware for this option, please let us know.

We are also looking for an image of the firmware from a radio with INTERNAL Advanced Securenet. This would either be from one of the field upgrade kits or from a factory unit with the option. Note this is not the same as a radio with an external security housing."

It seems what was once a great place for hackers and techs to hang out in now just a bunch of radio users, dealers and repair shops and RSS cops. I know you have to be careful but it has gotton out of hand.

Thank you for pointing that out!

I was going to mention that but i was already looking like the bad guy asking about it. I did respond to that request about the dual drawer setup but never received a response. So i guess they are not interested in solving that anymore. Looks like its ok for them to ask for it, but not us??

Let's hear about this. If firmware should not be traded or shared then someone really needs to re-write parts of the Batlabs site to remove references like that. The Mods think Motorola is watching the forums for illegal activities, and i can understand their concern, truely i do. But what about the Batboard website then? When was the last time someone even updated anything over there?

I'm not sure if most people realize this, but the Batlabs site & this forum are owned & operated by two different people.

Batwing & a couple of others own the Batlabs site & run it through a server in...Vancouver I believe. This site is owned by Jon, who runs it on a server in Ohio or thereabouts. The sites provide links to each other, but that's about it.

So, what goes on Batlabs really has nothing to do with what goes here. What "they" ask for there doesn't affect what "we" can ask for here.

Traditionally, we refer people to Batlabs when it can answer their questions, as it's one of the premier Motorola info sites on the net.

Anything new which has come up on here has traditionally gone onto become an update on Batlabs...until about 3-4 years ago at least.

If Batwing doesn't update his site anymore, there's nothing we here can do about it. I don't know if he's lost interest, or if there's another reason. He can be emailed though the contact info on the Batlabs site if you really want to ask. He might even respond.

Likewise, Jon can be emailed through his username here on Batlabs, if you really have an issue with what's allowed to be discussed here & what isn't. It's ultimately his site, and he can say what goes & what can't. As of right now, he has given us no solid direction, so we err on the side of caution. If he says to make it a hacker's haven, then it'll become that. I don't mind it one way or the other, it's his arse & not mine.

I think wavetar hit the nail on the head though.
Traditionally, we refer people to Batlabs when it can answer their questions, as it's one of the premier Motorola info sites on the net.
Most people think the sites are one of the same. Heck i didn't even know it was two Completely Different people running the two sites.

I always thought they were both the same owner, and as far as i knew the same server, etc. Mainly because each site references the other so much.

So, i appologize once again for my ignorance regarding that. However, i think the Batlabs site should reflect the feelings and cautiousness of the Batbaord if that's the way its going to be.

I went through a lot of old posts that were locked and people warned about firmware. Most of them came here after reading about the firmware "over there" and then find out its handled differently here.

Yeah i know, the rules one should read before posting. It's like the instructions that came with the radio, how many read them before they come across something they can't figure out on their own?

Yes, I know...the average member here has no idea they are separate boards...it's something that's been mentioned before, but I really want it to be out in the open & understood by everyone. It helps the thought process immensely once the distinction is realized.
