HT1250 will not turn off?

Post by BFD319 »

Working on a HT1250 the radio was dropped in water, it was pulled apart right a way and dried. problem now is it turns on and works fine, but the radio will not turn off. When you turn it off about 3 sec later it goes into a mode of on-off on -off until the battery is removed. anyone have any ideas? thanks

Sounds like the on/off/volume switch has water in it. It may dry but it needs to be replaced that is a cheap part if the rest are dry. Is it the old housing or new style? The newer ones have the gasket to protect it.I have replaced these from being dropped or ran over its not that bad with the right tools. Water is very bad to alot of things inside, good luck.

Take it apart and take a hair drier to help dry the switch but not on high heat. You may want to see it any water is blown fron any other areas. Its hard to tell if its too late for this step. I will try to get pic of old and new housing(could not get pic to display on post).

email me @ railroadradionc@yahoo.com and I'll send pictures

I hate to spend $$$ on a can or two of Air (dust remover spray --from rad-shack) but thats when it comes in handy! just in case the hair drier has heat only?

This is a common problem with the HT1250. I've had a bunch recently that have had this problem. (Out of a fleet of about 80)And none got wet. Just normal use.
