Could someone explain the "color code" feature of the XPR8300 repeater? Thanks!
Re: MOTOTRBO "COLOR CODE" ?
The simplest thing to compare "COLOR CODE" to is PL. I believe it equates to a digital type of data squelch. In simple terms, just think of it as the PL of the radio / repeater.

Re: MOTOTRBO
Mine came in black. Are there other colors available?
Re: MOTOTRBO
Correct, colour code can be equated to PL. The intention in the DMR protocol was to allow mulitple users to use the same channel in ajoining areas but to segregate them by means of colour code. The same princile is used in Canopy.

Re: MOTOTRBO
Incorrect replies regarding color code. Look at Motorola's Canopy line of TDMA broadband products. A color code is a site channel indicator. This is beneficial and often used where you have overlapping sites on the same frequency. Your PL codes are now IP subnets...
Re: MOTOTRBO
Likening the color code to a PL is somewhat erroneous, although it can be used for a similar purpose. Technically, "CALL ID's" are used to give PL type operation in TRBO radios, by segregating users into talkgroups.
From the CPS help file:
Color Code
Description
This feature allows a color code to be assigned to a given channel. Channels may have the same or different color codes. A repeater can only have one color code.
A color code is used to identify a system. Different color codes are used to identify different systems. This feature enables a radio to roam between multiple systems by switching between channels with different color codes. The radio will be able to scan across channels with different color codes. Radios will ignore any channel activity not containing the matching color code for that system. Repeaters using the same frequency may be associated with different color codes. On shared channels, spectrum regulators may wish to assign different color codes to different licensees as part of their license agreement. This is a channel-wide feature.
