How to turn off MODAT on Astro Spectra ?

Post by SD70MAC »

I have an Astro Spectra VHF that has MODAT on it that I may purchase. I have no experience with MODAT ,but on this radio its tied into the Emergency feature. I can turn off the Emergency options but I don't see where to do the MODAT. I am using CPS 5.02 ,any ideas ?

That radio has been hacked. MODAT is not a compatible option with the astro spectra. It shouldn't function at all, but you should be able to disable it by changing the signaling type to MDC or whatever else.

I will give it a try,I will have it a few weeks to kick the tires before I buy ! Its got a lot of Ham frequencies in it and the CPS don't like them. It will program them to the radio anyway.

It is on pre-P25 radios. Which isn't to say the OP doesn't have a hackjob radio, but it definitely existed as a legitimate flash option.

OP: What is the HOST firmware revision and flashcode of your radio? And just for the record, we are talking about an Astro Spectra mobile and not an Astro Saber portable, right?

I got around it ,I just made another zone for my tests. It does P25 that works fine. I thought the Astro's would do 12.5 ,this one will not. Non narrow band is a future problem. :(

Firmware : 9.52.xx.xx (this is the way it reads ?)

DSP : N6.04.12

Flashcode : 598008-0C0400-8

Astro spectra does 12.5khz deviation.

Unless it has the 2.5khz RF board, then it won't properly work 2.5khz channel steps (or something like that).

As for narrow band compliance, the AS does 12.5khz, it selected via another menu in the conventional personality.

It will let you enter the narrow frequency ,but it will not let me change the TX spacing from 25khz to 12.5khz.

First off, you change it under TX Opt Dev, not channel spacing - all the other boxes will be read-only eyeglasses.

Second, if the personality you're on has analog securenet enabled, it will always force it to be 5.0KHz.

While pretty old, your firmware is legit post-P25 cutover. Current HOST firmware is up in the 11s.

Your flashcode is definitely a non-factory whore too, hence the presence of MODAT. If it's like the 4F1E Astro Sabers that have to have it assigned to at least one personality, just stick it on a default personality and don't add it to your zone/channel assignments.

I thought the whole issue with Modat emergency revert was that it had to reference a zone/channel combo that pointed to a personality with Modat enabled, not just pointing at a personality? Could be wrong tho, been a while since I played with it - kinda grew out of the annoying noises thing.

Thanks. I will try this on Monday, I have to work the weekend.

akardam,

Thanks I see what you are saying ,I changed the TX Dev to 2.5 and it changed the channel spacing to 12.5. Works like a charm now. Looks like Motorola would have come up with a SOP when they started the CPS and all CPS would have been basically the same just more options on higher tier radios.

Yeah, you're right.. the one time I had to write a 4F1E radio with CPS the MODAT Emergency table had to reference an actual selectable channel. In that case it was a UHF XTS3000 so I just slapped it on FRS 1. With Singletone RAC. <_< I don't recall having the same issue with RSS 9.05 tho.
