Charger mA...Does it really matter?

Post by guamtom »

I have a fleet of ambulances with 5v-850mA mini-USB chargers for the ic509 Nextels we carried. I've upgraded to i686's that take a 5v-550mA micro-USB charger. Can I splice on the micro-USB's to the old chargers or do I need to run out an buy all new $$$!!! chargers? Thanks in advance. Guamtom

You should be fine; the i686 came out as I recall AFTER China mandated that all feature phones use USB charging so it will use the no more than the standard USB charging power of 5V @ 550 mA; If the device thinks its too much voltage, it will stop charging.
