Astro Spectra upgrade for 2.5kHz spacing

Post by Tim »

Hi folks,

Went to enter a new frequency pair into the Spectra yesterday (154.9725/151.1975).

RSS took it fine, but when I prog'd the radio, it barfed & said I needed to upgrade.

Any clue how much this is gonna set me back, and is it something that I could hack
on a channel/channel basis?

Thanks,

tim

2.5khz RF board as well?

Pop the bottom off the radio, pull the shield withe handle and see what revision the HRN6014 board is.

Well I was going to give you an outrageous price of what Motorola sells the current RF board for but they appear to be NLA. I recall it being $700+. You need a HRN6014C or newer board plus chances are a firmware upgrade.

You will be better off getting a used drawer unit that already has the 2.5khz RF board in it. The model tag should say 2.5KHZ but ALWAYS verify with the RF board revision, it must be C or later.

Thanks Jason,

No big deal, I don't talk to them very often anyway. I'll just use the XTS!

Tnx

What exactly does the 2.5kHz RF board give you? The channel spacing, or the deviation? I'm assuming it's channel spacing.

Is the HRN6014C board specific to the VHF model, or is it common amongst other
bands? (maybe pickup a 'less than desireable' model & scavenge the board)

RF boards are band specific, ie VHF, UHF and 800. They are not interchangeable. The VHF is the only one that had issues with channel spacing.
